Many people have been told that chronic pain is just something they must learn to live with. Physicians have tried surgery, physical therapy, and every type of pain medication on the market and the patient is still experiencing chronic pain. Hypnotherapy may be the answer. First of all I always like to make it very clear that any issue that may have a medical origin (ie chronic pain) must be approached with a medical referral from the client’s physician. This is to safeguard you the client. A licensed physician must have made the diagnosis and ruled out or dealt with any physical origin for the pain. A hypnotherapist does not have the authority to diagnosis any issue from a medical standpoint. The other reason is also that pain can not be just be taken away without knowing the cause since it is the body’s protection and alert system.

The use of hypnosis for the treatment of chronic pain is widely accepted and there have been a multitude of articles and books on this subject and the success rate hypnosis enjoys with this issue. The March 2004 Ladies’ Home Journal states “recent research shows this mind-over-matter technique may quell pain, whether chronic or acute”. This is also supported by Dr. David Spiegel from Stanford University in which he states “If this were a drug, everyone would be using it”. “Changing your mental set can change what’s going on in your body”. Dr. Montgomery from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine indicated “Most patients benefit from the use of hypnotic suggestion for pain relief”. The 4/29/00 journal called the The Lancet reported that hypnosis reduced pain, anxiety, and blood pressure complications in patients undergoing invasive medical procedures. I recommend the books written by Dr. John Sarno; Dr. David Bresler; and Dr. Martin Rossman.

Whether it be headaches, back pain, chronic pain from illness or injury hypnosis has been proven to be of benefit. Hypnosis, in addition, to regular medical treatment has several advantages in pain management. First, it is a drug free alternative. Now imagine even if you weren’t able to rid yourself of pain 100%, if you could reduce the pain by 50% what a difference in your freedom of life and perhaps, with your physician’s approval, be able to reduce your pain medication by 50%.

Hypnosis will assist you in stress management and reduction, improve your sleep patterns, and teach you techniques that may prove successful for you in managing your chronic pain. Hypnosis is a rapid and effective alternative, but your firm commitment is imperative. Hypnosis is not a “magic pill” that works after one session. A lot of clients may start to see improvement after one or two sessions, but I believe a good foundation of at least six weeks needs to be laid in order to bring about the maximum improvement.

Why not make this the year that you put yourself back in control of your life! Hypnotherapy can give you the tools to become proactive in your recovery and that is extremely empowering when you feel like a majority of your life is out of your control.

  • Reduce chronic pain
  • Reduce stress
  • Become proactive in your recovery
  • Improve your power of positive thinking
  • Motivate yourself to exercise and move
  • Start living again!
