WHAT IS NLP? You may have heard this term or seen it referred to in my articles. NLP is short for Neuro-Linquisitic Programming. Let’s break this down starting with Neuro: The nervous system (the mind/body) through which our experience is processed via our five senses of Visual; Auditory; Kinesthetic (touch); Olfactory (smell); and Gustatory (taste). Linguistic: Language and other nonverbal communication systems through which our neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning: Picutres; Sounds: Feelings: Tastes: Smells; and Words (self talk). Progamming: The ability to discover and utilize the program that we run (our communication to ourselves and others) in our neurological systems to achieve our specific and desired outcomes. In other words NLP is how to use the language of the mind to consistently achieve our specific and desired outcomes. In bringing in the strong connections with our five senses, our internal language, and knowledge about ourselves allows this method to intensify or complete other methods ie hypnosis and guided imagery to bring about even more rapid and complete changes. Now I realize it might sound confusing, however, I am an NLP Practitioner and use many of the NLP techniques in my sessions. The common use of an “anchor” technique is an NLP technique. This technique allows a person to instantly connect to a positive attitude. A qualified hypnotherapist should be well versed in hypnosis as well as NLP and Guided Imagery to bring about desired changes. This knowledge and flexibility just makes it easier for the client to achieve their desired results. • Knowledge is power
