Cancer

For those of you, or have loved ones, that have heard the diagnosis of “cancer” you know what a state of trauma it induces. I would like to discuss the benefits that hypnotherapy can bring about if you are battling cancer.  First of all I would caution anyone looking for a hypnotherapist to make sure that person is fully qualified and is a member of National organizations and has graduated from an accredited school. I graduated with honors and receipt of the Directors Award from HMI, which is the only accredited school in the nation for the profession of hypnotherapy. I have also taken extensive training with Timothy Trujillo who has received the medal of honor from the UN for his work with cancer and HIV groups. I am also an Advanced Therapeutic Imagery Facilitator. If you are a member of Healthways WholeHealth Networks please refer to their list of practitioners and see that I am listed as a recommended hypnotherapist in San Diego County.

There is substantial documentation which indicates that hypnotherapy can reduce stress, lessen or eliminate the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, assist in better sleep, re-generate a healthy appetite, lessen and/or eliminate pain, improve attitude, and motivate you to adhere to your physician’s protocol for recovery. Large insurance companies such as Blue Cross and Kaiser are now endorsing hypnotherapy as an additional way to improve health.

Hypnotherapy has been approved as a method of therapy since 1958 by the American Medical Association. In 1995 a statement from the National Institute of Health cited strong evidence that hypnosis can reduce chronic pain associated with cancer. Cancer.gov indicates that hypnosis is a method that can be used to manage cancer pain.

Hypnotherapy can help you cope with the illness and have a better quality of life by reducing pain, anxiety, and if need be deal with the issues related to death and dying. In reports by Spiegel, Bloom etal, 1981, 1983, 1989, they indicate that people who participated in support groups were less anxious and depressed and experienced half the pain. Their finding also indicated that the support group participants lived an average of 18 months longer.

Hypnosis is a drug free way to assist you and empower you to become pro active in your recovery. I do not adhere to the philosophy that we somehow cause this illness, however, I do feel that you can be active in your recovery.
