TMJ / Grinding
Written by Judy Callihan Warfield

Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome, or TMJ for short, along with Bruxism, or teeth grinding can be very painful and destructive to teeth. Some people even experience headaches from these syndromes. These conditions should be diagnosed thru your physician or dentist and they may prescribe medication and/or suggest wearing an apparatus at night to keep damage from occurring. Hypnotherapy combined with your physician’s protocol can help lessen the symptoms.

These syndromes are usually centered around stress. Stressful situations occur every day which cause us to grit our teeth. Whenever one of these stress inducing situations occur, whether it be job related, relationship related, or perhaps financial stress, we unconsciously clench our jaws and/or grit our teeth. Most gritting and grinding occurs at night. Our subconscious mind remembers the stressful or anxiety producing incident which may have occurred during the day or threatens to occur in the future and replays them over and over many times during the night. We awaken exhausted and the pain and damage to our jaw and teeth worsens.

Learning stress management techniques can lessen or eliminate the symptoms. An extra bonus to learning stress management techniques are that you can use them for any situation that brings about stress or anxiety. Again, hypnotherapy is a safe, effective, and drug free solution that combined with your physician’s protocol can bring about lasting results.

• Reduce Stress
• Reduce/eliminate pain
• Reduce damage to teeth
• Gain confidence and motivation to make changes
• Improve Sleep patterns
• Build confidence and self esteem
